Elster House
Our clients engaged Assembly Interiors prior to settlement, with a clear brief to reimagine the kitchen, laundry, ensuite and bathroom. While the home had strong architectural bones, it was anchored in a dated 90s aesthetic that no longer supported the way the family wanted to live.
With plans for extensive landscaping underway, the interior needed to feel equally resolved - clean, contemporary and connected to its surroundings.
The kitchen became the natural starting point. Originally configured as a closed-off U-shape with a raised bar, the layout disrupted flow and limited connection to the adjoining dining area. By removing these barriers, we were able to open the space entirely - introducing a generous island that now anchors the room and supports both everyday family life and entertaining.
Materiality was approached with restraint. Timber veneer joinery brings warmth and texture, balanced by crisp white cabinetry that blends seamlessly into the architecture. Soft grey benchtops and grid-format tiles introduce subtle layering, while curved detailing - seen in the island ends and handles - adds a quiet softness to the overall composition.
A full-height bar cabinet defines the transition to the dining space. More than just storage, it acts as a visual bookend to the kitchen, grounding the layout and reinforcing the connection between zones.
Internally, the cabinetry has been carefully considered to support daily use. From tall pantry storage and integrated bar functionality to corner mechanisms and custom drawer inserts, along with an integrated HVAC system, every element has been designed to maximise efficiency without compromising on aesthetics.
The result is a kitchen that feels calm, highly functional and effortlessly connected, designed to evolve with the family over time.
