Mid-Century Modern Home Renovations

Restore it.  Don’t erase it.

A mid-century Melbourne home doesn't need to look like a time capsule. But it shouldn't lose its identity either.

The best renovations understand what was there before, what still works and what needs to change.

We look at the original architecture, proportions, materials, joinery, light and connection to the landscape, working to restore what still works, adapt where necessary and add new elements with respect for the original.

The goal is to create a home that works beautifully for your life today while still feeling unmistakably like the home it was designed to be.

Considered interior design for your mid-century home:

  • Spatial planning that honours the original proportions and architecture

  • Intentional kitchen, bathroom and joinery design

  • Sympathetic material selections and lighting plans

  • Working with your home’s orientation and connection to landscape

A different approach to restoring mid-century homes

Mid-Century Melbourne homes have qualities that many new homes lack - architectural integrity, thoughtful proportions and a connection to their surroundings. Renovating them requires restraint, sensitivity and a clear understanding of how to improve function without erasing what makes them special.

I work with home owners across Melbourne, Mornington Peninsula, Bayside and Eastern suburbs to carefully modernise mid-century homes, improving flow, storage and liveability whilst respecting their original architecture.

No rushing. No trends for trend’s sake. Just good design, done properly.

How the process works

  • Initial consultation

We walk through your home, your plans and how you want to live.

I want to understand your routines, priorities, pain points and plans for the future, as well as the opportunities and constraints of the property.

Because good design starts with understanding the people who live there, not just the room dimensions.

  • Concept design

This is where the ideas start to take shape.

I develop the overall design direction, refining layouts, exploring joinery and establishing the look, feel and functionality of your home.

You'll see the direction come together through 3D visualisation and initial material selections - giving you something tangible to respond to before we dive into the detail.

  • Design development

This is where decisions are properly resolved. Materials, finishes, fixtures, cabinetry, lighting and all those seemingly small decisions that have a very large impact are properly resolved.

Everything is considered together, so you don't end up with a collection of beautiful things that don't quite belong together.

  • Documentation

A beautiful design is only useful if someone can actually build it.

I prepare the drawings and schedules required to accurately price and confidently deliver the design.

Less guesswork. Fewer surprises. A much smoother path from screen to site.
